Children’s Programs
Homework Haven
The afternoon program offers students from grade 1 to 6 with an opportunity to complete assigned homework. The program runs Monday to Thursday and Friday is a Fun Friday from 2:30-3:30pm. Every Wednesday will be designated for guided reading. This is a free program, however, each participant must register.
Food and Fun Camp
Come on over to the Exploits Community Centre and learn about preparing healthy meals and snacks while learning about nutrition and safety. This program runs periodically throughout the year, for children ages 8-12.
Kids Eat Smart
Kids Eat Smart (KES) is an afterschool program that provides healthy snacks to children agaes 6-12. We strive to help provide the proper nutrition children need to grow and develop. The program runs from Monday to Friday 2:30-3:30pm. Children receive a healthy snack before they partake in the Homework Haven program.
Guided Reading
Guided Reading is a program is designed to encourage children to build on their reading skills as to support better outcomes in education. This program runs every Wednesday from 3:20pm to 4:00pm with the help of several volunteers; we dedicate time from our Homework Haven Program to helping children increase their literacy skills.
Summer Camp
This program is a summer day camp for children ages 6-12 which supports children in discovery, learning, and fitness. Summer Camp sessions are half-days; Monday to Friday for seven weeks, beginning in July and ending in August.
Youth Programs
Tutoring
The Exploits Community Centre tutors youth ages 12-18 with courses they may be struggling with, or just studying in general. The tutoring is to assist with studying and homework during exam times. This program takes place twice weekly for an hour each session.
Youth Nights
Youth nights are every Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 6-8pm. We do a variety of activities such as youth cooking, wood cutting/carving, movie nights, fitness program, and much more. We encourage health and well being in these activities.
